MENTALITY ON THE DAY OF THE EXAM
They say Success and Failure is all in the head. The mental fortitude plays a very important role in the ORE. And if you can not control your fear, anxiety and nervousness for Part 1, then when you come to Part 2 you will have a tough time.
On the day of the exam arrive before time for registration and avoid speaking too much to other students as everyone is nervous and may make you nervous as well. Eat a good breakfast and don’t go empty stomach as it may make you more nervous.
You need to understand that for this exam it is a simple computer based MCQ exam. It is just you and a computer. So there is no reason to be afraid. Further You require to merely get 50% of the questions correct to pass, so a few tough questions you do not know the answer to will not fail you. And the most important thing is there is NO NEGATIVE MARKING. So already there is plenty in your favor.
On the computer you will get an option to skip a question you do not know the answer to. These skipped questions will return at the end. So if a question comes up, that you don’t know the answer to, don’t dwell too much, just skip it and move ahead. By the end there will be about 5-10 questions you skipped that will reappear, you can re attempt these questions by application of mind.
Further if there are a few questions back to back that appear you don’t know the answer to, don’t panic, there are 200 questions, and don’t let it affect you mentally. Its ok to not know all the answers. If you get nervous because of the questions you don’t know the answer to, then you will clutter your head and confidence in the questions you know the answer to and will doubt yourself even in simple straight forward questions and then its all downhill from there.
Have faith in your preparation, go one question at a time and keep track of time. You have 3 hours to solve 200 questions. In paper 2 the questions will be long and confusing, so take time to read them well, specially there maybe some questions you may need to read two times.
There maybe a few questions that may be tricky, if you don’t know the answer it is ok, go with your gut feeling, or try to eliminate the options least likely based on your knowledge ( probable Elimination ). Remember there is no negative marking so don’t worry.
There also maybe a few instances where the questions are repeated again. Just mark it again and move on.
After you are done with each paper go home and immediately write down as many questions as you can remember as it will help you to get an idea of how many you got right, and once both papers are over you can analyze for yourself how your exam went.
Remember, a cool , calm and collected mind will fare better.
Good Luck
